Assisting children to participate in formal school system from low-income families
Assisting children -Education is the emphasis of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to “provide inclusive and equitable quality education for all” and “encourage lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
For nearly three decades, a few organisations have been working on this. Manav Sadhna (MS), nestled in a calm area of the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, is one such organisation.
MS has been working in Ahmedabad to empower underprivileged communities through Holistic Education, Nutrition, Health and Hygiene, Youth and Women’s Empowerment, Senior Care, Livelihoods, and other initiatives.
Earn N Learn is one of Manav Sadhna’s longest-running programmes, and each child who participates is intensely engaged. The programme helps vulnerable children by supporting their education (learning) and offering a platform of arts and crafts for them to earn money for a few hours each day in a safe and loving atmosphere (earning).
Obtain N Learn While participating in festivals, sports, field trips, and other enjoyable activities, children receive a nutritious snack, tutorial sessions, and caring mentorship on a daily basis. They go to school in the mornings. They make beautiful handmade paper products (cards, invitations, bookmarks, diaries) in the afternoons from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. for which they are compensated. They are required to attend daily tuition lessons, participate in extracurricular activities, and are provided with nutritional snacks.
“Living and working with Manav Sadhna has been a deep experience that has caused great changes in our kids’ lives and in my life, which I am observing daily,” says Yogesh, a coordinator at Manav Sadhna.
We are eager to assist children in whatever manner possible so that they can develop inside and externally and become socially responsible and caring human beings.”
Through Manav Sadhna’s adopt-an-education initiative, this programme has also financed our students’ educational fees. The pupils also toured across the United States and the United Kingdom as a result of their art and dance classes, giving them a lot of exposure. In this approach, the programme promotes the overall development of the children participating in the programme while simultaneously providing financial assistance to the family to prevent dropouts.
Every component of the curriculum is infused with values and life skills by project mentors. Thousands of youngsters have learnt and matured holistically as a result of this programme, including several of Manav Sadhna’s project coordinators. This programme benefits over 44 youngsters.
