Education is democratic right, no child should believe otherwise
Education is democratic right – The educational landscape in India is highly disparate. We have pupils from all walks of life, from those who have had a solid education to those who have no concept what education is. Due to health concerns, many children from low-income homes are compelled to drop out of school or labour to support their family. Survival is a major worry for those who live in extreme poverty.
COVID-19 school closures, according to data, have harmed pupils worldwide, forcing millions of children to rely on virtual learning. Children who do not have access to the internet have found it difficult to continue their education.
The study reminds us that access to education remains a pipe dream for lakhs of young children living in rural areas. While many poor children believe that school is not for them, BYJU’S believes that education is a democratic right that should not be denied to any child.
By 2025, BYJU’S plans to educate over 10 million youngsters. In 2019, a social effort named Education for All (EFA) was launched, with the goal of providing free education to pupils from impoverished backgrounds.
Education is democratic right
This effort advanced in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which wrecked havoc on the education system by forcing schools to close for extended periods of time and forcing students to learn through the internet. However, this has widened the gap between those who have access to online education and those who do not.
Under the EFA initiative, BYJU’S has collaborated with a number of organizations, particularly NGOs, and its educational content has been made available on mobile devices, with free access for students and instructors. BYJU’S Education For All gives students in rural and urban slums in India with equal access to BYJU’S free streaming licences through its NGO partners, allowing them to continue to learn.
Increasing Umang’s* Chances of Becoming a Police Officer
Umang, one of the initiative’s beneficiaries, has had a difficult existence for a long time. He had recently lost his older brother, who had been orphaned at an early age. Simultaneously, the pandemic had a severe impact on his education, and his future appeared to be gloomy.
Fortunately, Umang’s sister and her husband have been looking after him, helping him with his needs and making sure that his education is not jeopardised. Umang was a reliable and bright student when he was in school. He discovered, however, that online schooling had taken its toll on him, and he felt disoriented in the absence of a classroom setting.
Giving Pavithra* the Tools She Needs to Realize Her Dreams
Pavithra is from a low-income household in Haveli, Pune, and is a beneficiary of the EFA programme. Despite their financial difficulties, her parents wanted to ensure that their daughter had a good education and a bright future.
As a result, parents enrolled her at the Zilha Parishad Primary School in Sortapwadi, Haveli (ZPPS). This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the little girl. Pavithra made it a point to go to school every day in order to further her engineering ambitions. She was able to pick up new talents while having a good time with her buddies. Despite the difficulties, Pavithra’s life was filled with joy since education provided hope for her and her family.
BYJU’S has worked with over 100 NGOs, including the Ladli Foundation, Save the Children, Smile Foundation, and European India Foundation, to make education more accessible to children. BYJU’S is also collaborating with NITI Aayog to provide high-quality test preparation tutoring to 3,000 deserving kids in 112 aspirational districts.
While children’s schools have reopened and the relevance of online learning has diminished, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) encourage students to continue using the app and take use of its free features. Students can learn at home by using the BYJU’S app.
BYJU’S Education for All is working to make education more accessible to children like Umang and Pavithra, who have the potential to be tomorrow’s leaders.
