Changing Lives of People with Visual Impairment through Campaign
Protecting sight and fighting for disability rights since 1966, Sightsavers has launched ‘It Takes Two’ campaign which aims to improve the world by guaranteeing a better life for those with visual impairment.
It Takes Two campaign is set to move forward in guaranteeing that no one goes blind unnecessarily. The purpose of the campaign is to encourage businesses to join Sightsavers in reducing blindness and ensuring the independence of people with disabilities.
India has the largest population of blind individuals in the world. More than 8 million individuals. The bulk of them live in the poorest parts of the country, with little or no access to even basic health care. Almost 50% of all visual impairments are treatable or preventable. Sightsavers‘ work in India has helped millions of people with vision problems and brought eye care to some of the country’s most underserved areas. Sightsavers India assists persons with disabilities in eight states and twenty cities. Sightsavers has been reaching out to a life where it is most needed through its three key areas of work: eye health, social inclusion, and inclusive education.
Changing Lives of People
“For five decades, Sightsavers has worked to rebuild lives and create a more equal world for people with vision impairment and other impairments. We are encouraging everyone to come forward and join us in giving back to society by protecting vision through this initiative. After all, it takes two, us and you, to make a difference in someone’s life,” says RN Mohanty, CEO of Sightsavers India.
