Empowering Panchayati Raj Institutes for SD

In India, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are implemented in large part because to Panchayati Raj Institutes (PRIs). The SDGs have been approached thematically by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, with nine themes encompassing various goals and being mapped to several nodal ministries and departments.

With the help of the community, this strategy intends to make the SDGs more clear and accessible to PRIs and to make it easier for them to be implemented locally.

Panchayati Raj Institutes

The Ministry has implemented the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan to aid in the implementation of the SDGs at the Panchayati Raj Institutes level (RGSA). Through participatory local planning at the Gram Panchayat level, this programme, which was executed from 2018–19 to 2021–22 and has been modified for 2022–23 to 2025–26, intends to equip elected officials and functionaries to carry out the SDGs.

The programme is demand-driven, and monies are distributed to the states and union territories in accordance with their Central Empowered Committee of RGSA-approved Annual Action Plans. The plan has no established goal.
