Over 10,000 children are born with Thalassemia every year. Thalassemia is an inherited blood condition for which the only permanent solution is a bone marrow transplant. The procedure is incredibly expensive in India, costing up to INR 15,00,000, making it out of reach for the poor.
“Care for Life, a part of our corporate concept, resides at the heart of Himalaya Wellness Company,” K G Umesh, Director Human Resources, Himalaya Wellness Company, says of the project. Our corporate philosophy guides our thinking and motivates our activities. We are pleased to extend our support to SIF in order to make systematic treatment and management of thalassemia accessible, as part of our commitment to address community health care concerns. We will make a positive influence in the lives of children and reflect our aim of providing happiness by empowering and allowing communities to live happier lives through our relationship.”

“We are really grateful to Himalaya for this generosity,” said SIF President Lalith Parmar. Sankalp’s Thalassemia Cure Program detects children with thalassemia and provides them with a permanent treatment option. Over 400 children have received a complete cure from thalassemia at a cost similar to 4-5 years of thalassemia therapy in the last five years. Furthermore, our collaboration with Himalaya will help us achieve our objective of a thalassemia-free India by ensuring that more patients have access to treatment.”
Patients will be treated at the BMJH-Sankalp Department of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and BMT, which opened in September 2021 at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bengaluru.
