Spark Minda Foundation, the CSR arm of India’s major automotive component maker, Spark Minda, organized a ‘Empowerment of People with Disabilities Camp’ in Zangli Garrison Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir from the 21st to the 26th of August 2023. The intervention impacted around 1000 people with impairments.
Mrs Sarika Minda, Chairperson of the Spark Minda Foundation, emphasized the value of teamwork by thanking the Indian Army for their continuous commitment in reaching out to more people with disabilities (PwDs). “Spark Minda Foundation expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army for their support,” she stated. We applaud the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their faith, as well as our partners for their commitment. Our fifth year of collaboration has increased the impact on the lives of people with disabilities in the union territory. The growing positive feedback strengthens our commitment to allowing more people with disabilities to reach their full potential.”
The camp provided multidimensional support to approximately 1000 PwDs with the goal of supporting equal growth and development. This covers the distribution of assistive devices such as Artificial Limbs, Calipers, Crutches, and Hearing Aids, as well as the critical facilitation of UDID registration, which echoes empowerment and inclusivity.
Major General Girish Kalia, Vishisht Sewa Medal, General Officer Commanding Vajr Division, addressed the gathering, saying, “The collaboration of the Indian Army with Spark Minda Foundation is able to improve and sustain many lives in the valley.” I’d like to thank everyone who came out to the camp. I would also want to commend Spark Minda on their excellent endeavour.”

This is the Foundation’s second consecutive camp in Kupwara, and the third overall in Jammu and Kashmir. Spark Minda and the Indian Army hosted the first PwD camp in Barmulla, Uri, in 2018. In February 2023, the charity will conduct a 10-day Mega Camp for People with Disabilities in Uttar Pradesh.
Since its beginning in 2015, one of our core programs, “Saksham – Empowerment of People with Disabilities,” has been focused on altering the lives of People with Disabilities (PwDs).
The initiative has influenced the lives of over 16,000 people with disabilities, provided UDID support to over 1,700 people, and facilitated employment for over 1,000 people with disabilities within the Spark Minda Group. The camp was carried out in Kupwara by a team of 20 members from the Spark Minda Foundation and volunteers from the Indian Army.
In the future, the foundation hopes to assist more people with disabilities in order to improve their quality of life and potential.
