LTI funds IIT Madras team to develop Hyperloop Technology
IIT Madras, the Indian Institute of Technology, has received yet another round of big financing. L&T Technology Services has provided financing and technical support to the IIT Madras team named Avishkar team this time. This funding will go toward the development of Hyperloop technology.
Hyperloop-based transportation systems are thought to be a futuristic mode of transportation. L&T has opted to fund the team at IIT Madras to “further build traction on their breakthrough disruptions” in this arena.
The Hyperloop concept presented by IIT Madras’ team Avishkar might reach speeds of over 1,200 km/h. The team kept their mode autonomous, safe, and clean in order to expand the scope of Hyperloop Tube research in India. They’ve also patented a new tube design that’s both innovative and cost-effective.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said about the project, “The vacuum tube, when completed, will be the first of its sort in academia anywhere in the world and will be on par with the test facility of the commercial entity, Virgin Hyperloop One in the United States.” As a result, ours would be the only one of its sort open to the public, and we want to use it to host international Hyperloop contests.”
For quite some time, Hyperloop Technology has been the talk of the town. Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations), IIT Madras, commented on the project’s impact, saying, “CSR funds put in developing sustainable technology solutions is the only way to be ready for tomorrow’s concerns.” We are delighted that LTTS has taken this path.”
