Sandvik Mining & Rock Technology India launches the “Girls’ Empowerment through Education” project
Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology India launches the “Girls’ Empowerment through Education” project to support education of close to 4500 children from the most vulnerable communities in Sangareddy, Telangana. Targeting to support 20 schools and 15 Aanganwadi Centres for a period of 3 years.
With an aim to bring the gender transformative outcomes for girls in the communities, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology India along with its implementing partners Plan India and Mahita, launched the Girls’ Empowerment thru’ Education CSR project from Zila Parishad High School, Rudraram, Patancheru on November 12, 2021.
To take this initiative forward, the project was jointly launched by Mr. Rajarshi Shah, IAS, Additional Collector, Sangareddy Distt, Govt of Telangana and Mr. Manojit Haldar, Managing Director, Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology India along with other senior dignitaries, HMs and teachers from school, girls, parents, community representatives and School Management Committee members
Sandvik believes that women are the backbone of any household. An educated woman can stand strong for her family and even push for the studies of children. They play a very important role in improving the quality of life of their family and contribute to the overall development of the country in a big way.
To promote and support girl education and making them independent and self-reliant, Sandvik designed this holistic project with a lifecycle approach to enhance inclusive and quality education while eliminating gender disparity at all levels of education. GEE project is our strategic CSR initiative focused on promoting girl education by supporting under-served schoolgirls, make them independent and self-reliant, to be able to better support their families and help create a better ethos. The project is aligned and contributes to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals as adopted by the United Nations
The project is greatly focused on bringing back the out of schoolgirls to school life and creating a conducive environment to control the drop-out rate. As a part of this project, we are aiming to improve the basic infrastructure of schools and anganwadis by upgrading WASH and restroom facilities, establishing STEM labs and libraries, providing quality education by capacity building of HMs, teachers and creating child-friendly atmosphere to control the drop-out rate.The key highlights of the project are:
- Life cycle approach for girl education from preschool to class 10
- Collaboration with Government – Department of Education, Dept. of Women and Child Development, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT)
- Aligned to SDGs to bring gender transformative outcome for every girl
- Upgraded infrastructure facilities in school (incl WASH facility, Libraries, STEM Labs, school renovation)
- Capacity building of Teachers, Anganwadi workers, parents and communities.
- Technical resources developed for holistic development of children in Life skills training, career guidance, Menstrual Health Management and STEM learning in schools, Sports facilities provided.
