IIT Delhi and ITC join hands for research on STEM for sustainability
STEM for sustainability – ITC Limited, one of India’s biggest multi-business conglomerates and a sustainability exemplar, has inked an MoU with IIT Delhi to promote research in identified STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in needed to aid India meet its Sustainable Development Goals more speedily
Prof. Sunil Khare, Dean, Research and Development, IIT Delhi, observed, “The industry is facing tremendous upheaval with an ever-increasing need for sustainable and functional products that are pushing new developments.”

“Through this collaboration, IIT Delhi‘s cutting-edge research will be combined with ITC’s application know-how to accelerate innovation and develop solutions for a variety of end-use applications of our clients and society at large,” he added.
Prabhakar Lingareddy, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, spoke about the relationship.
“With a comprehensive Sustainability 2.0 vision that resolves to ‘Build Back Better,” ITC Limited’s Head of Social Investments remarked, “ITC has started on the next horizon of sustainable excellence.”
“While rapid strides have been made toward accomplishing these goals over the years,” Prabhakar Lingareddy continued, “there are other sectors that still require development of viable technology solutions to enable scale up and a transformational impact.”
AREAS OF RESEARCH
Energy storage, low-carbon cold transportation, and plastic biodegradation, to mention a few, are now being researched, and this will pave the way for more study in areas of mutual interest.
“We are thrilled to be linked with ITC,” stated Prof Anurag Rathore, Dean, Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, in response to the deal. The DNA of ITC’s corporate concept is sustainability, and we look forward to exploring more mutually beneficial partnership channels that will stimulate innovation and ideation of novel technologies and products.”
Prof Rathore went on to say that IIT Delhi has made important contributions in a variety of sectors, including academics, research, innovation, and technology development.
