Swiss pharma CSR initiative to stop maternal deaths
At an event held at the Swiss pharma consulate in this city on Tuesday, Ferring Pharmaceuticals and the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India unveiled an initiative to stop unnecessary maternal deaths.
“For Every Mother in India” is an initiative that aims to bring together a wide range of stakeholders in an effort to put an end to preventable maternal deaths. These stakeholders include policymakers, government organisations, development partners, academia, medical professionals, and civil society.
It also seeks to prevent post-partum haemorrhage (PPH), a major cause of maternal fatalities, by providing two crore women and their families with sustainable access to room-temperature stable (RTS) carbetocin, a medication used to stop excessive bleeding after childbirth.

Sustainable healthcare is a strategic goal of Switzerland’s Foreign Health Policy, according to Olivier Fink, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in India and Bhutan. My nation is dedicated to better global healthcare and long-term national health systems. We are happy to help an Indian company called Ferring with their maternal health programme.
Seven Indian states have lowered their maternal mortality ratio (MMR) to fewer than 70 per one lakh births, while 11 states have an MMR of less than 100 per one lakh births, according to Per Falk, president of Ferring Pharmaceuticals.
“It is depressing to learn that four women lose their lives while giving birth every hour. At Ferring, we are collaborating with partners to help every Indian state achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.1 and stop these frequently avoidable fatalities, according to Falk.
Every woman giving birth should have access to high-quality care and treatment, according to Alexandra, the Countess of Frederiksborg of Denmark and a member of the Ferring board.
