Walmart Global Tech and IITM to partner on research and CSR initiatives
Walmart Global Tech – NEW DELHI: Walmart Global Tech (WGT) is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on research and corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. The agreement, which was announced earlier today, will involve IIT Madras’ Centre for Industrial Consultancy & Sponsored Research (IC&SR), which will conduct research projects with IIT Madras students and WGT personnel.
WGT also stated that it will partner with startups funded by the IIT Madras Incubation Cell in terms of industry experience and technology availability. Employees of WGT will have access to both short- and long-term educational courses in the retail and ecommerce industries as part of the cooperation, allowing them to upskill.
“WGT and IITM have several areas for joint growth, such as sustainability, AI, and energy engineering,” said Mahesh Panchagnula, dean of alumni and corporate relations at IIT Madras. We want to turn this into a powerful collaboration that benefits a wide range of stakeholders, including IIT Madras students and faculty.”

The institute declared in December 2021 that it was looking to broaden the breadth of its technology-driven CSR partnerships. IIT Madras stated at the time of the announcement that it had raised over 200 crore through over 140 corporate partnerships, including the most recent one with Walmart Global Tech.
Walmart is also looking to increase the number of funded research initiatives hosted by the IC&SR department. According to data from IIT Madras, the institute had over 800 active sponsored research projects through this hub as of March 31, 2021, spanning fields like aerospace engineering, advanced automotive research, technology policy, electrical and electronics innovations, clean water research, and so on.
